Access2018 Cohorts

Cohorts are peer learning groups focused around various areas of ministries. Participants will have lots of time to talk about what is working, what is not, ask questions, discuss best practices and even work through issues together. Each cohort will be guided by trained facilitators.
People who are registered for Access2018 should select two cohorts.

Cohorts will happen in two groups and each cohort will extend through the times indicated below. Based on signups so far, we have scheduled cohorts in two blocks (A&B):
Each Tuesday Cohort will happen from 11:00 am - 12:15 pm AND 2:30 - 3:30 pm.
Each Wednesday Cohort will happen from 11:00 am - 12:15 pm AND 2:30 - 3:30 pm.

Facilitator Resources

Administration Ministry

Where two or three are gathered together, SOMEONE HAS TO ADMINISTRATE! What are you learning about providing quality office support in your church? Chaplaincy Ministries: Integrating into Local and Federal Government for the Gospel

Difficult to Discern: The Toughest Parts of Paul's Writings [Workshop]

Dr Randy Smith will teach this class on Paul's writings. Usually, Paul's writings are easy to understand. But some that he teaches is best understood in the context in which it was written. Integrate Powerful Coaching Skills into Your Leadership [Workshop]

Coaching skills bring a whole new dimension to your various ministry and leadership roles. Lead Pastor Administrative Assistants

A Lead Pastor Administrative Assistant has a very important role in helping the Lead Pastor do his job effectively. It is important to be confidential and trusted, cheerful, friendly, pleasant, and to have the ability to work with and serve a wide spectrum of people. It is also very important to be organized, able to prioritize projects, be proactive, able to foresee potential problems and to communicate clearly and concisely to the Lead Pastor and to others on his behalf. All of these things must be done with a joyful, caring, Christ-like disposition. This cohort will be full of practical tips on everything from the small and mundane duties to the importance of representing the Lead Pastor, the church, and Christ well. Most of all, it will include tried and true practices that the top Lead Pastors have reported as things they appreciate from their Administrative Assistants and that help them do their jobs more effectively.

Access2018 Main Session Speakers

Dan Allan

Dan Allan is the senior pastor at Ashland Grace (Ohio) where he has been on staff for 33 years. He and his wife Holly have two adult children and two of the most adorable and intelligent grandchildren! Dan loves golf, tennis, the beach, the water, the woods, the Wolverines and pastoring. Dan will reflect on "Leaving A Legacy and Finishing Strong" during the Tuesday evening Celebration.

Mark Artrip

Mark is pastor of Movement Church, Hilliard Ohio, husband of Kristin, and father of Malachi, Canaan, Mercy, and Zion. He is a graduate of Grace College (Biblical Studies and Youth Ministry) and Grace Theological Seminary (Family Ministries) and is a lover of pop culture, gum, and conversation. Mark is the emcee of our Celebrations

Tom Avey

Tom has been the full-time Fellowship Coordinator since January 1998. He served as pastor at the Grace Brethren Church of Orlando, Fla., and as church administrator and pastor of church growth at the Grace Brethren Church of Lititz, Pa. He and his wife, Sandi, reside in Winona Lake, Ind. They have four adult children and eight grandchildren.

Sandy Barrett

Sandy serves as the Operations Manager for the Charis Fellowship. Many of the details including registration, meals, childcare staffing, exhibits, transportation, and general room use are coordinated by Sandy. You can see Sandy during conference at the Hospitality Center. Sandy and her husband, Steve, are members of the Winona Lake (Ind.) Grace Brethren Church. They have three grown children and six grandchildren. Sandy will retire from her 20-yr position as Operations Manager after Access2018.

Sharmion Bowell

Sharmion Bowell is a Grace College Business graduate who managed a Human Resource department for 4 years before she and her husband Ryan, of 23 years, began a family in 1999. They have four kids Cameron (19), Austin (17), Madeline (15) and Aidan (14). She has loved being a full-time mom for the last 19 years and home-school her kids for 9 years. She is the Kids Missions Connection Coordinator at Winona Lake GBC and has worked in ENL for the last 3 years. After Access2018 Sharmion will serve the national office of the Charis Fellowship as Operations Manager.

Cheryl Byers

Cheryl Byers is the Childcare Director of Access 2018 this year. She is the Children’s Ministry Director at Marysville Grace in Marysville, Ohio. She's had 25 years of experience in Children's Ministry and has been the Children's Director for 8 years. She loves seeing kids worship God and organizing various events.

Charlotte Byers

Charlotte Byers is the Assistant Director of Access 2018 this year. She is a recent college graduate with a major in Elementary Education and is a Children’s Ministry Intern at Marysville Grace. She enjoys building relationships with kids and serving in the Nursery when she can.

Jeremy Byng

Jeremy Byng has been the Worship Pastor at Grace Community Church in Goshen Indiana for 9 years. He grew up in the Sebring (FL) Grace Brethren Church and graduated from Grace College in 2004. While attending Grace he met his wife, Ginger (Ogden). They have been married for 15 years and have been blessed with 3 lively children; Lily, Riah, and Rhett. Jeremy has been playing guitar and leading worship for over 20 years in various settings. But his passion is to see hearts come alive in the local church as they worship our Savior in spirit and truth.

Kip Cone

Kip is the Proclamation Pastor at the Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church in Indiana. Kip and Mary met at Grace College and subsequently served as church-planters for a decade in Berlin, Germany. Kip will reflect on "Reflections on Ministering Effectively in Multiple Contexts" during the Wednesday evening Celebration.

Jeremy Framstad

Jeremy Framstad came to believe in Jesus at a young age but really started taking ownership of his faith when he started attending Grace Community Church in 2000. Later he was offered a part-time job in 2003. Once Jeremy finished up his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration at Bowling Green State University, he came on staff full time at Grace in 2005. Since then Jeremy has been able to be a part of Grace as it has grown and changed. His passions include seeing people come to know Jesus and he gets to play a role in that thru Grace’s Sunday morning services. His production team is responsible for creating a place where people can come and experience God each week. He also has a desire to empower others to lead in the local church. Let’s face it, one-day Nerds are going to rule the world and Jeremy is a super Nerd. It’s gonna happen. Jeremy enjoys working on his hobby farm with his wife Jenny and two kids Cooper and Gretta. Jenny and Jeremy met and were married at Grace. His personal hero is Ryan Nearhood.

Dave Guiles

Dave Guiles is the Executive Director of Encompass World Partners. Dave has led the mission through a series of significant changes, including rebranding, relocation, and restructuring of global operations, in pursuit of the goal of retooling a one-hundred-plus-year-old organization for the current age. He also serves as Coordinator for Charis Alliance, a global network churches. Dave and Sue currently reside near the new mission headquarters in Atlanta. He is the author of two books, Discovering Global Missions and Mobilizing the Mobilizers. Dave shares Wednesday evening on “Reflections on our Movement in Africa (from sacrifice to fruit)”... A celebration of the sacrifices that made Africa our most productive mission field.

Forrest Kirchenbauer

Forrest has been serving as Pastoral Care at Grace Community since 2006. He graduated from Indiana Baptist College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible. Before coming to Grace Community, he served as a youth pastor in New Washington, Indiana. He also served 15 years in Christian education as a principal in Indiana, New York and Ohio. Forrest is currently responsible for hospital visitation, Wednesday Night Bible Study, Lay Counseling Ministry and Administration. Forrest and his wife, Vickie, have four children and two grandchildren. Forrest enjoys spending time with his family, watching sports (especially football and Indy racing), camping and playing the piano.

Tom Leatherman

Tom has been a member of Wooster Grace church 20+ years. He is involved in the oil change ministry and the Friends & Followers ABF. Tom is a member of 555 Honors Detachment: giving honors to the military at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery and other cemeteries in the area plus flag presentations at local parades. He enjoys Cleveland Indians games and Akron University. Tom has been serving Charis Fellowship conference at the registration table and in anyway as needed! Tom especially enjoy meeting the Military Chaplain’s serving our church and country. Tom and MaryJane spend the winter months in Tybee Island, GA!! Mary Jane and Tom have been married for 50 years have two children and four grandchildren.

Mary Jane Leatherman

Mary Jane Leatherman is married to Tom and lives in Rittman, OH. The Leatherman's have been a member of Wooster Grace for more than 20 years. Mary Jane is involved with Women’s ministry, and the Friends & Followers ABF. She enjoys anything that involves grandchildren, reading & knitting (traveled to Italy on knitting tour!), she volunteers at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman and has been serving the Charis Fellowship conference for 7 years. Tom and MaryJane spend the winter months in Tybee Island, GA!! Mary Jane and Tom have been married for 50 years have two children and four grandchildren.

Tony Livigni

Tony Livigni is the Campus Pastor of the Medina East campus of Grace Church in Ohio. He has served at Grace Church for 12 years, serving in college and young adult ministry for seven years and leading the Medina East Campus for the past five years. Since its inception, the Medina East Campus has grown to more than 1,000 regular weekend attenders. Pastor Tony is married to his lovely wife Jessica, and has four children. Tony will talk about "Reflections on Handling Early Success While Wanting Lasting Fruit" on Tuesday morning.

Keith Minier

Keith has faithfully served at Grace Fellowship in Pickerington, Ohio, a growing congregation that integrates service and gospel in its community. Keith is a passionate and skilled communicator and leader, who loves seeing the power of the local church unleashed. He is married to Kelly, and they have four children, Kaden, Kaiya, Kooper, and Kamille. They reside just outside of Columbus, Ohio. Keith is the director of Access2018.

Marcie Olson

Marcie is the cohorts coordinator at Access2018. She and her husband Jeremiah were on staff at Grace Community in Goshen, Indiana for 14 and have been at Grace Fellowship since November 2015. For the past two years, we have been serving as campus pastor and wife at the Licking Heights High school campus - an extension of the Pickerington main campus. They have four kids - Carina, Libby, Jordan and Micah. Marcie's interests are music and worship leading, fitness and nutrition and going on adventures with the family.

Dave Pacheco

Dave has been at Delaware Grace (Ohio) for 10 years; 6 as the youth pastor, 2 as pastor of adult ministries, 1 as interim pastor and is now completing 1 year as lead pastor. Dave will co-emcee Access2018 celebrations. He is father of Alexander and Elijah and has been married to Esther for 16 years. Dave's hobbies are golf, disc golf, cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers, pretty much anything related to sports, smoking meat, stupid human tricks. Dave will co-emcee the main sessions.

Kevin Pinkerton

In 1990, Kevin came to Grace Community Church as an Assistant Youth Pastor/Custodian. Three years later, he became the Lead Pastor. Since 1993, Grace has grown to an average Sunday morning attendance of 1,867 in our small town of Fremont, Ohio. In addition to the Fremont main location, GCC has a campus in Northwood, Ohio and is in the process of launching a new campus in Tiffin, Ohio. Kevin and Pam, have three children; Pastor Zach (married to Kaitlynn), Brianne (married to Jacob Wukie), and Karissa (married to Calvin Spriggs) and four grandchildren. Kevin enjoys pointing people to our Savior, spending time with his family, exercise, football, being in the mountains, and traveling.

Zach Pinkerton

Zach has served as Young Adult, Middle School, and currently as the High School Pastor since 2010. Zach earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical studies from Liberty University, a Master of Arts in Religion in theology and apologetics from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia, a Masters in Religious Education from Liberty, and a Masters of Arts in Ministry Studies from Grace College, as well as a Masters of Business Administration degree from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio. Zach’s wife, Kaitlyn, is also a Liberty graduate with a degree in Graphic Arts. Zach and Kait have two sons Toby and Weston.

Phil Sparling

Phil is Senior Pastor at Grace Community Church, Auburn Calif. This church was launched by three families (one of which was Phil's parents) and now welcome 700 people to worship each Sunday. Phil and Ruth have four young-adult children. Phil talks on Thursday morning about "Reflections on Keeping the Bible Central to a Ministry". Phil speaks during the Thursday morning celebration

Joel Trainer

Joel grew up in Africa, is married to Morgan, and loves dancing with his daughter Cooper, wrestling with his son Judah, and playing soccer, eating sushi, and hunting deer. He and his wife, along with an outstanding team of leaders, planted Three Creeks Church in Gahanna, Ohio, in February 2018, with the support of numerous Charis Fellowship churches, particularly Movement Church in Hilliard, Ohio. Joel reflects from "the Beginning of the Path" as a new church planter during the Wednesday morning Celebration.

Cheryl Byers is the Childcare Director of Access 2018 this year. She is the Children’s Ministry Director at Marysville Grace in Marysville, Ohio. She's had 25 years of experience in Children's Ministry and has been the Children's Director for 8 years. She loves seeing kids worship God and organizing various events.

Charlotte Byers is the Assistant Director of Access 2018 this year. She is a recent college graduate with a major in Elementary Education and is a Children’s Ministry Intern at Marysville Grace. She enjoys building relationships with kids and serving in the Nursery when she can.
